G Missing the Point. –> COPYRIGHT 2004 Financial Times Ltd. (From Concord Times (Sierra Leone) – AAGM) Byline: James Magao “The force for good”, as the police in Sierra Leone refer to themselves, has once again turned down law-abiding citizens from obtaining a permit in order to carry out a lawful demonstration on issues that are very dear to their hearts. The Inspector General of Police, Brima Archer-Kamara’s excuse on BBC was very unconvincing and made him sound very incredible. By the latter action termed “operation free flow’, he was demonstrating that as an indigenous boss of the police force, succeeding Keith Biddle, the British IG in Sierra Leone, he was giving notice that he was not going to dance to the tune of politicians, especially those at State House. It has long been a standing policy in Sierra Leone that the police have to get their orders from State House, a policy which made the police force a puppet of politicians from the ruling party. The British IG had not shown any deviation from that long-standing policy, hence his ineffectiveness.
