Dandala was addressing various church leaders, civil societyleaders and women leaders during a public forum in Freetown, Sierra Leone. The forum was organized by the Christian Council of Sierra Leone (CCSL). Theforum’s theme was "Political, Economic and Ecclesiological Challenges facingthe church in Africa". Dandala was leading the AACC delegation fora pastoral visit to Sierra Leone and Liberia last month.

The UN relief coordinator, Jan Egeland, said there would be aseparate appeal for Darfur, Iraq and Afghanistan, no longerconsidered neglected tragedies. He said Sierra Leone and Angolahave been taken off the list since last year because of progress inresolving conflicts. The campaign, launched in cooperation with 104 other aid agencies,has been significantly scaled back from last year, when $3. 4billion was sought for 21 hot spots but only $1. 86 billion wasreceived. “This year there is a sharper and more focused appeal for a smallernumber of countries,” Egeland told Reuters.

He added that international LGBT communities should work to support lesbian and gay people in those African countries that oppress them. “The best way we can honor FannyAnn is by supporting the many other African LGBT campaigners fighting homophobic oppression in countries like Uganda, Zambia, Algeria, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Egypt, Namibia and Kenya,” Tatchell said.
