AllAfrica.com – Aug 30, 2006
This book give a detailed description of women’s grassroots organizing in urban Sierra Leone. Much of Steady’s work concentrates on women’s groups and organizing in the capital Freetown. Steady first examines the dominant Western feminist paradigm and explains that the African feminist perspectives and needs are not represented there. But, Steady says, there is enough commonality among Africa’s diverse women to speak of an African feminist ideology.

“We have so much and we are still doing much more to promote Sierra Leonean music. That is why we should be seen as the only authority to award artists for their works,” he stated. Gibo also explained how CSA helped popularise Sierra Leones international music star, Jimmy Bangura, commonly called Jimmy B when he came home from South Africa as well as several other local artists within the country including: Vick Fornahs album- Hold my hand, Steady Bongos- Youth man and Welcome Democracy, King Mascos- Fire Stone and George Buanis- Election Time among others. “Because CSA was directly involved with the publicity of these albums nationwide, they saw breakthroughs in terms of sales,” Gibo maintained. He went on to disclose further that CSA has already secured samples of the awards which he described as “classic and monumental”. Gibo pointed out that he himself brought them from London.
