Awareness Times – Dec 14, 2006

, from 1963 to 1966. He joined the Sierra Leone Cooperative service in 1966. … Women would Walk Side-By-Side with their Male Counterparts…
Awareness Times – Dec 14, 2006
Upon arrival, the hall was charged with electrifying ovation by a transfixed crowd. Indeed, the guest of honor was charismatic in his dinner suit as he majestically walked alongside his wife, prelude to his stomping declaration later in the evening; Women and men would walk side-by-side with their male counterparts in the PMDC government they would not walk behind them. His Positive Change for Sierra Leone message was concise: He was resolute in his statements that Sierra Leoneans would see a day when excessive corruption would be outdated in a country where the people will equally benefit from the yields of the land instead of where just a few benefit from corruption. The people will experience the true meaning of decentralization and empowerment of the people under a PMDC government. PMDC will embark on programmes that will foster national development instead of individual gains. The country will enjoy proper healthcare system and create employment especially for the youth population, which has been the victim of marginalization by both SLPP and APC regimes. PMDC will embark on improve farming methods and training to ensure food security for its people…
On thanking the people, he assured the PMDC London branch that many more people will come onboard the Positive Change train to see the liberation of Sierra Leone from the crutches of corruption that is eating away at the hope of our nation based on the turn out of people at the Gala Dinner and Dance. The Gala Dinner and Dance was garnished with performances from young and old Sierra Leonean artists. A Sierra Leone talent “Bush Doctor” opened the floor, with a unique rhythm that is reminiscent of a cross between Bob Marley and Peter Tosh, which was followed by Bunny Mack, a well-known musician and songwriter. A women cultural masquerade, Bondo Devil, also performed. The entertainment session of the evening was crowned by the wonderful performance from King Masco and his Trio daughters. Their choice of music, “Lets Build Africa,” was appropriate for a well attended political fundraiser by Africans. © Copyright by Awareness Times Newspaper in Freetown, Sierra Leone.

… A Grand 85 Years Of Age… Dr. Talabi Aisie Lucan Makes…
Awareness Times – Dec 14, 2006
Talabi Aisie Lucan who, last week Monday December 4th 2006, turned a grand age of 85 years, has appealed for more attention to be paid towards resuscitating a culture of reading amongst young Sierra Leoneans, with the provision or the sponsorship of reading scholarships by well-off Sierra Leonean citizens and Institutions. The 85 year old living legend, who was speaking exclusively to Awareness Times Newspaper last evening, revealed that she has herself opened up such a Scholar Trust and has asked all her well wishers to contribute towards the Trust. “Instead of birthday gifts, I want to appeal that financial contributions be made by my well-wishers, friends and relatives to this Biography Scholar Trust which will offer scholarships to secondary school pupils who read the biography of the late Madam Ella Koblo Gulama and take part in a planned nationwide quiz…
In a correspondence issued, the Management Committee of the Scholar Trust has also appealed to Business-houses, Commercial Banks, Womens Groups and Ex-Pupil Associations at home and abroad to make purchases of the Ella Koblo Gulama Biography and donate it to school libraries and community libraries of their choice. Lucan herself repeatedly emphasised last evening that Sierra Leone has to encourage its children to inculcate the habit of reading. “Sierra Leoneans must go back to reading. I therefore hope that this planned scholarship to be offered to secondary school pupils who read the book and participate in the upcoming nationwide quiz about the book, will be an incentive and also act as a catalyst for the development of even more reading scholarships,” a well wisher of Dr. Lucan told Awareness Times last night.
