… grants Charles Taylor more money for defense in Sierra…
International Herald Tribune – Jul 6, 2007
“We believe there are tens of millions,” said prosecutor Stephen Rapp. Taylor is believed to have enriched himself by taking a cut of lucrative contracts for timber and other resources in Liberia. Prosecutors also accuse him of funding the Sierra Leone rebels in part to get his hands on the country's diamonds. Investigators are working to track down Taylor's alleged loot. If it is found and can be linked directly to him, the court has the power to make him pay back money he has been given to fund his defense. Taylor's new defense team is expected to be in place in time for his trial's scheduled resumption on Aug.

The mineral exploration company said it has now scheduled a work programme of up to 200,000 metres of drilling to define the extent of the Tonkolili mineralisation under the project, which is about 150 kilometres from the Pepel deep water port. This port is serviced well with good infrastructure for shipping. Sierra Leone will take up metallurgical testwork, flowsheet development and preliminary engineering to complete a scoping study by the second quarter of 2008, it added. Alongside the news from the Tonkolili project, the AIM-listed company said it is starting a drilling campaign to define the extent of iron mineralisation along with initial metallurgical testwork, flowsheet development and preliminary engineering at its Marampa project, which is nearby.

In a statement, the company said the name change will reflect the development of its activities across several sites on the African continent, which have the potential for the discovery of precious, base and minor metals. It added that it is considering further strategic acquisitions in the region. The company also reported that it proposes to limit the number of directors on its board to a maximum of ten.
