Awareness Times – Aug 3, 2007
Victor Angelo, on behalf of UNIOSIL and the UN system in Sierra Leone, wishes to commend the Office of National Security, Sierra Leone Police, National Electoral Commission, Political Parties Registration Commission and the National Commission for Democracy for organizing a successful conference to discuss elections security with political parties on Wednesday, 1 August. Angelo is particularly grateful for President Ahmad Tejan Kabbahs address to the meeting, calling for peaceful elections and acceptance of the results as well as precisely describing the elections as a friendly contest. UNIOSIL and the UN system are especially proud of their partnership with the security sector as well as with the other institutions that support the democratic process in Sierra Leone.

Puawui Column: The Picture Is Emerging Quite Rapidly in Sierra Leone

Unlike other journals, the Standard Times has justified Americas action in deporting Nyuma, and presents his account of event in a way that wraps Tom Nyuma in as a would-be assassin. In a follow-up article last Tuesday the papers front page carries the headline “50 Rounds of Ammo, 9 mm Pistol found in Nyumas vehicle” basing its story on what Hindolo Trye allegedly told them. And yet both Commissioner Buck and LUC Daboh have denied the discovery by them of any arms or ammunition. In an opinion article in the same Thursday 24th issue, one of the papers columnists, Santigie Kamara confirms the papers anti-SLPP government stance in an article under the heading “Dont evade the truth” which makes much play over whether the door to Tom Nyumas room was broken or whether he opened it voluntarily.

… Koroma: Beneficiary of Corruption & Intrigues in Sierra…

I will not name names because some of the people are family members who are my benefactors. But let us focus on Ernest Koroma. For the APC, 1977-1978 was a period of political consolidation in Sierra Leone. Siaka Stevens had removed foreign oversight of the Sierra Leone economy, declared Sierra Leone a one-party state, and indiscriminately used the Internal Security Unit (ISU) paramilitary force to bludgeon all opposition into submission. In the face of all of this, Ernest Koroma quietly joined Siaka Stevens maniacally destructive political project. At this time, Siaka Stevens and Jamil Sahid Mohamed were looking to establish a Sierra Leonean hold on economic interests like the fisheries, diamond mines etc. This is when the young, impressionable Ernest Koroma was recruited with the traditional APC largesse of a managerial position in RITCORP.
