The president of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists Phillip Neville in his speech at the opening of the workshop on November 20, described Islam as "one of the fastest growing religions in the world". He said there had been many misperceptions about the religion, adding that Islam gave rights to women hundreds of years ago prior to the time gender equality gained cognizance in the western world.

The memo had to with a renewal of contract in the agency. Since the end of elections in September in which the All Peoples Congress elbowed the Sierra Leone Peoples Party out of power for the second time since 1967, pro-SPP newspapers have been projecting restructuring programs (that the SLPP itself carried out when it won in 1996 and 2002), as "witch hunts or "regionalism". A recent publication in the New Vision apparently portrayed a memo released by NaCSa for renewal of contracts in the same light and it incidentally invoked reaction from the management. A release from NacSa explains that it had been a normal procedure for staff to renew their contracts when the time elapses.

Deputy Finance Minister Walks out on Statistics Launching in Sierra…
Awareness Times – Nov 28, 2007
However, an interesting incident in the Hall was when the Deputy Minister of Finance & Economic Development, Dr. Richard Konteh who represented the Minister of Finance and Economic Development, refused to make any statement when he was asked to give the key note address instead he abruptly said, “I cannot read my statement because there is no report to be launched” and proceeded to rise from his seat and leave the Hall where the Launching was held. Awareness Times followed him outside the hall and questioned him about his bizarre action to which he responded that he was a honest man and since according to him, he said that he did not see a full report but only “an abstract of the report” and as far as he was concerned, an abstract was not a report. He further revealed to this medium that he took the action of walking out as a means of showing that he would not lie to the people of Sierra Leone by saying that he had launched a survey report when the reality, according to him, was that the report was not even ready and only an abstract had been hurriedly prepared.
