Sierra Leoneans are worried because members of the Energy Emergency Task Force (set-up by the president) are now uncomfortable with the heavy handedness and management of the contract award in gross violations of the standard operating procedures binding on the handling of such procurement at a colossal amount of USD 30 million to Global Trading Group that bagged the 15KW Thermal Energy contract.

The main focus of the one day meeting was to see how best to improve on seed projects development, a three-year initiative that started in 2005 geared towards improving food security and nutrition in line with the provision of rural employment and income generation in Sierra Leone. It was also to set the basis for the rehabilitation two more centres in addition to the Kobia Seed Centre namely, the Makeni Seed Centre and the Thakoblo Variety Maintenance Farm of the National Seed Programme to improve the availability of high quality seeds of adaptable varieties to farmers and to also provide the foundation for sustainable seed industry. This will also go side by side with the training of relevant staff to undertake widespread production and dissemination of seed and planting materials to meet the seed needs f of the main food crops to beneficiaries. It was also discussed in the meeting that a functioning National Seed Board with representation from seed industry stakeholders be established, along side a clearly defined and concise National Seed Policy to be formulated and launched by the ministry to facilitate the development of the seed sector in the country.
