It is frankly a question I often get in outreach around Sierra Leone: 'Why aren't you prosecuting the Viktor Bouts of the world?'” Rapp said he would have a good case against Bout for aiding and abetting crimes against humanity and war crimes in Sierra Leone, based upon him having made arms shipments on behalf of Charles Taylor and for the brutal Revolutionary United Front. He said weapons were delivered into the war zone “at the time they were conducting operations with names like 'No living thing,' and being paid for those shipments with diamonds dug by slave labor. travel ban imposed on Bout said he supported Taylor's regime in efforts to destabilize Sierra Leone and gain illicit access to diamonds, which became known as “blood diamonds” for the warring they inspired.

As the post-talk cocktail party was ending, I asked Puryear whether his work had ever been shown in Africa. Never, he said, adding that the size of many of the pieces makes them hard to transport. It would be interesting, he said, to bring work inspired by Sierra Leone to Sierra Leone, but “the part of Africa that I was in was devastated. ” The work is smooth, silhouettes of individual pieces precise, planned for; suddenly, ragged images of mayhem arose in my mind. 2 Radio Station lambasting sycophants who wished to protect their own welfare and closeness to the powers that be, all at the detriment to the nation. The visibly impaired Cullen is one of Sierra Leone’s most ascerbic critics and in the last Government headed by President Kabbah, James Cullen’s programmes were a must for many Freetown residents. However, unlike other formerly bitter critics of Government mismanagement, authoritarianism and corruption, who have now transformed themselves into sycophantic praise-singers of the new Government, Cullen is sticking to his critical social commentating style over the air waves. In yesterday’s programme, Cullen mocked the Police, Attorney General and President’s Office for machinating the invitation by the Police of our Publisher Dr. James Cullen advised President Ernest Koroma to encourage all criticisms regardless of how fierce they were.
