Is The Attorney General Of Sierra Leone A Lone Ranger Minister?
Standard Times Press, Sierra Leone
In case the lone ranger Attorney General is not aware, His Excellency the President was confronted with some serious embarrassment in both Bo and Kenema over the past weekend. Citizens demonstrated for President Koroma to treat the cocaine incident with the utmost seriousness. The demonstrators even alleged that the All Peoples Congress (APC) is responsible and orchestrated the trafficking of drugs in and through Sierra Leone. Neither President Koroma nor the government and people of Sierra Leone deserve the stain of cocaine. The tongues of some of these people have started wagging about the Attorney General’s previous persistent legal battle with President Koroma, a fight that almost destroyed the APC. Again there is a growing perception that the Attorney General’s seeming uncooperative behaviour towards His Excellency is an attempt by him to undermine the Presidents looming stature and popularity.
Sierra Leone:Reflections On Attitudinal And Behaviorural Change
Standard Times Press, Sierra Leone
Unthinkable atrocities were committed by Sierra Leoneans against each other and against public institutions designed to serve the general public. But the war itself, it is general agreed, has been caused by years of maladministration, injustice, corruption, economic mismanagement and the lack of patriotic, visionary and transformational leadership. In this frustrating socio-economic and political climate, a gulf has been created between the citizens and the state, with the unpleasant consequence of a dissipated spirit of patriotism and absence of good citizenship. Although some of the material causes of the war are currently being addressed, there is little progress in creating in the minds of citizens a sense of patriotism and good citizenship that is indispensable for national development.

This is no ordinary visa issuance since it came after almost eight months following Koroma’s application that was followed by an appeal against the commission’s refusal to issue her with a visa at North Shields Kings Court in Newcastle. GA_googleFillSlot(“AllAfrica_Story_Inset”); On December 5, 2007 Madam Isata Koroma, popularly known as “Tha Isatha”, a petty trader in Makeni applied for a visitor’s visa to see her son graduate in London. The entry clearance officer who considered her application, refused it on the grounds that she was unemployed; that she had no sufficient ties in Sierra Leone to guarantee her return; and that she was not a genuine visitor to the UK and if granted visa she would not return. Koroma told this reporter that she was devastated by the decision. “I found it difficult to understand why on this occasion I am not a genuine visitor when in 2004 I travelled to London to attend my son’s first degree graduation and returned to Sierra Leone. ” She was not the only person who did not see justification in her visa refusal. Her son, Patrick Hassan-Morlai whose LLM graduation she was to attend also thought the refusal was irrational.
Sierra Leone: The Army We Want

But there is a snag somewhere. We still need soldiers anyhow to help protect our territorial integrity (forget about Alieu Kamara’s corruption of this here). The issue of who should be in the new Sierra Leone army should not be dictated by civilians as it literarily seems to translate now. It should not be by election. Under the present circumstance, the would-be-soldier gets clearance from the local level must have a guarantor who is a somebody – not a nobody – and must have a near fanatical love for his country. That is where the wholesaler rejection of what the old army is a curious phenomenon.

The experience sharing meeting looked at challenges identified during the survey and also gathered ideas that could serve as a guide for future demographic exercises. GA_googleFillSlot(“AllAfrica_Story_Inset”); Statistician general professor John Laurence Kamara described the survey as successful saying there was cordial working relationship between his organization, ministry of health and sanitation to ensure that the project became successful. “We appreciate the support given to us by UNFPA. The monitoring and evaluation of the programme has been very effective because our field workers were up to the task.
