Eight indicted in scheme to smuggle stolen cars to Sierra Leone

The indictment charges that the eight conspired since April to steal the cars and ship them to Sierra Leone using an unidentified shipping company in Sayreville. One vehicle was allegedly taken at gunpoint in Washington D. , while others were stolen from car dealerships. The defendants presented the shipping company with false title documents to conceal the fact that the cars were stolen, according to the indictment.

US Embassy Sponsors Training ProgrammeThe US Ambassador, June Carter Perry has graced the Certification Ceremony of Force Intelligence and Security Unit Personnel following completion of a Joint Intelligence Workshop that was held in Freetown from 8th to 17th September 2008. In a speech delivered at the auspicious occasion, the newly appointed Chief of Defense Staff, Brigadier Alfred Claude Nelson Williams said the occasion was unique not only because it was the first of its kind between America and Sierra Leone but because it included all ranks of the military. He also expressed thanks for the manifestation in various forms of assistance from the US military to their Sierra Leone counterparts. The workshop, which trained 24 Sierra Leonean military personnel, cost the American Government the sum of 40,000 United States dollars. Osho Coker Sworn in As Secretary to PresidentVeteran civil servant Ernestus Osho Coker has been duly sworn in to act as the Secretary to President Ernest Koroma. The President reportedly admonished his new principal assistant not to betray the confidence that had been reposed in him. He challenged him to work in the interests of the State and the citizens at all times.

The 10 membership network was established on the 12th of September 2008. Network Coordinator, Mr. Francis Sowa told the Awareness Times that the umbrella network was formed in Dakar, Senegal on the 24th April 2008 at the end of a three-day training on Disability Reporting from a Human Rights Perspective held from the 22nd to the 24th April 2008. “The training was aimed at promoting the rights of persons with disabilities and how they could be included in everyday media coverage,” the coordinator intimated, adding that, the training also provided knowledge about the new convention on the rights of persons with disabilities and the terminology guide.

Amidst periodic rapturous applause from the crowd, the President said that his government prioritized the restoration of energy in Sierra Leone because the delivery of electricity was central to the resuscitation of the economy, reactivation of industries and the creation of jobs. The President stated that his government decided to put in place an emergency energy program. We inherited only 7 magawatts of electricity which was far from enough for our capital. "Within a 100 days, we had increased power generation from 7 to 22 megawatts. Today, we are now at the level of 32 megawatts and Freetown is no longer the darkest city in Africa ", the President declared , amidst cheers from the packed hall.
