Since then, Kamara has had the sole responsibility of bringing up her boys, now aged 14 and 16, as well as looking after six other members of her family, including her elderly mother.

UNIPSIL Starts Operation in Sierra Leone

The office succeeded the United Nations in Sierra Leone (UNIOSIL), which successfully completed its mandate on 30th September 2008. During a press briefing on Thursday 2nd September 2008 at the Conference Room of UNIPSIL, Mammy Yoko in Freetown, Acting Executive Representative of the Secretary General (AERSG), Mr. Michael von den Schulenburg said UNIPSIL is the outcome of Security Council Resolution 1829 of August 4, 2008 which requested its establishment for a period of 12 months beginning 1st October 2008. “According to the resolution, the aim of UNIPSIL is to focus on and support the Government of Sierra Leone in its efforts to address the challenges of post conflict,” Mr.

The report released by the Society for Democratic Initiative (SDI) categorically states that the police is yet to be investigated for the recent beating of five journalists at State House and the SLPP Headquarters. “The indiscipline in the Police is not new, and it is now glaring that the Force is becoming partisan,” SDI Executive Director, Emmanuel Saffa Abdulai is reported as saying. Salone Signs Protocol to Tackle Child LabourIn collaboration with the International Labour Organization, Sierra Leones Ministry of Labour and Industrial Relations is said to have signed a four year protocol to tackle “Child Labour for Education” in Sierra Leone. The Ministrys Permanent Secretary, M. V Kanneh is reported to have expressed the need for stakeholders to support children in acquiring education to prepare them for a prosperous future. He reportedly expressed thanks to the government and its international partners for preparing a protocol which would tackle the increase in child labour practices.
