Former Sierra Leone Minister joins ECOWAS small arms control body

Shirley Gbujama, has been invited to join the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Advisory Board on Small Arms Control Programme (ECOSAP). The invitation was extended by ECOWAS Commission President, Dr. Mohamed Ibn Cham bas.

According to UN Security Council Resolution 1829 which established the new mission, “UNIPSIL will support the people and Government of Sierra Leone in the consolidation of peace, promotion of sustainable development and strengthening the democratization process in the country through reforms and capacity building in different national institutions. “The Acting Executive Representative of the Secretary General, Mr. Michael von den Schulenburg, said UNIPSIL began operating on 1 October. The new office succeeds the United Nations Integrated Office in Sierra Leone (UNIOSIL), which successfully completed its mandate on 30 September 2008.

Douglas Thom, Professor of Education, has been named an International Patron of the National Youth Award Scheme of Sierra Leone, Africa. The group has shipped donated computer systems and other IT equipment into Sierra Leone to help set up a pioneer computer training program.
