A Year After APC Victory…:Sierra Leone Still Hangs In The Balance
Awareness Times, Sierra Leone
“Too much reliance is placed on donors to generate ideas and policy, which leaves the government trying to accommodate too many different agendas instead of firmly imposing its own and demanding that donors accommodate themselves to it,” it says while noting that lack of regular meetings with donors has been a source of greater frustration and added a sense of drift. The Report also states that, “violent clashes between APC and SLPP supporters, allegations of police bias against government opponents, and the rough handling of journalists and insulting treatment of senior SLPP figures when guests of the president add understandable weight to perhaps less legitimate criticisms. ” The Chatham House Report is the latest of several international reports on Sierra Leone released recently that continue to express grave concerns over the worsening situation of the country since the APC assumed power some twelve months ago. It could be recalled that a recent Transparency International Report on Corruption also expressed similar fears over the increased rate of corruption in public offices during the last one year. The said Chatham House Report on Sierra Leone is available on its website at www.
