Sierra Leone: Eco Bank Donates to Leone Stars

Before departing Freetown for Nigeria, Eco Bank Sierra Leone yesterday donated 60 T-shirts and 90 Lacosters to Leone Stars at the National Stadium hostels. GA_googleFillSlot(”AllAfrica_Story_Inset”); Theophilous Minnah, the bank’s wholesale banker said the donation was a monetary influence but a gesture from the bank. He said his institution was trying to have a good relationship with the national team in the feature. “The bank is trying to develop a policy aiming at supporting the national team,” Minnah said.

Someone who was present in Kenema during the telephone conversation between the distinguished Paramount Chief and the Honourable Vice President recounted to Awareness Times that the Chief bitterly complained to the Vice President that Mbakui was bluffing that nothing would come out of the way the Chief was molested because Mbakui had spent money to make VP Sam Sumana win the Vice Presidency. We are informed that the VP, in response, once again assured the Chief that no one would pervert justice in Sierra Leone by the frivolous use of his name. The VP also informed the Chief that Mbakui not at all a close friend of the Vice President and that infact the first time the VP met Mohamed Mbakui was long after he had won the elections and become Vice President so there was no way Mbakui contributed to his election victory. The VP also assured the Chief that even if Mbakui had 100% sponsored his victory, he would still not support him to molest any Chief in Sierra Leone. Speaking to Awareness Times yesterday, the Vice President re-iterated that he had ensured that the relevant authorities in Kenema knew that he was now closely following the developments to ensure that justice was done based upon the findings of the police investigations which he had warned, was to be well above board. Guinea constructs € 6-million bridge to connect Sierra Leone

These works, due to last 18 months for the total cost of €6, 300, 000 million or about CFA 4 billion francs, will be funded by the Guinean government and the European Union through the ninth European Development Fund. This 240-km-crossing work will replace a 55-year old bridge which, notwithstanding its ageing state is always used to cross the Kisikissi River on entering Forécariah about twenty kms from the Sierra Leonean border. This farming area is filled with plantations of cash crops including bananas. This new project is among the hugs ones the Guinean government has decided to undertake as part of its fiftieth anniversary of indpendence.
Giant photocopier for the University of Sierra Leone

Giant photocopier for the University of Sierra Leone The Excellence Publishing and Printing Bookshop (EPP) has donated a Cannon Brand giant photocopy machine to the University of Sierra Leone, to ease some of the printing problems at the Planning and Public Relations Unit at Fourah Bay College. The bookshop which has its headquarters in Ghana, started operations in Sierra Leone in February this year on the invitation of University of Sierra Leone to revive the Fourah Bay College University Bookshop, which was reportedly shut down since 1983. The Manager of the Bookshop, Samuel Adjei noted that the donation is the start of a series of assistance on their agenda to boost education in the country. “The purpose of the gesture is to make educational materials available as we realize that there is a gap in photocopying facilities” he said. He categorically stated that the donation was made to the University of Sierra Leone but was located at the Fourah Bay College Campus; where students from the other colleges could also make use of it.
Pampers works with UNICEF to help countries eliminate tetanus

The actress recently visited Sierra Leone where she saw the impact of vaccination campaigns firsthand. This year’s Pampers campaign will support UNICEF in its work to help countries achieve the goal of eliminating maternal and newborn tetanus by 2012*. To date Pampers in the UK has donated the funding for over 23 million vaccines to UNICEF.
