Director Emmanuel Saffa Abdulai told CPJ that he and Information Officer John Baimba Sesay have received threatening phone calls nearly every day this month. Abdulai said the callers have specifically cited the group’s recent report. The threats have come from blocked telephone numbers, and the voices seem to be different, he added. The calls included threats to kill Abdulai’s mother, who recently came to the capital, Freetown, for medical treatment.

The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) Sierra Leone has Mother-and-Child Health and Nutrition programmes, like Therapeutic and Supplementary Feeding, to rehabilitate severely malnourished (in the third phase of recovery) and moderately malnourished children under 5 years. WFP has taken up the challenge to develop new kinds of nutritional foods using local produce. The improved micro-nutrient rich products will be designed to reduce child malnutrition, especially among children under two. “Foods which have been fortified for maximum nutritional impact can radically change children’s lives,” said Josette Sheeran, WFP’s Executive Director.
