And it was the Africans who had the first real break at goal in the 22nd minute. Striker Dwight Foray broke into the box but with only Malaysian keeper Mohd Helmi Eliza Elias to beat, he shot straight in the latter’s arms. Mohd Zaquan Adha had the best chance of the half to put the home team in front but his point blank shot from inside the box was saved by Sierra Leone keeper Jalloh Lansana in the 26th minute. The Malaysians raised their game after the breather but wasted three sitters in a 10-minute spell with Mohd Zaquan Adha, Mohd Safee Sali and Indra Putra Mahayuddin squandering open chances. Then, Indra made amends when he latched onto a through ball from substitute Mohd Hardy Jaafar to squeeze the ball past substitute keeper Mohd Kanu in the 66th minute before Mohd Safee added the second goal from a goalmouth melee in the 72nd minute. Centre back Mohd Aidil nodded in the third goal from a Mohd Hardy corner-kick in the 77th minute. Mohd Zaquan Adha completed the rout in the dying minutes for the fourth goal.

Sathia-nathan said the African nations have a strong football culture and Sierra Leone, although one of the lesser known football power from the continent, would be no different. “The African players are able to break into the European football market easily and we have to respect this fact,” said Sathianathan when asked about the strength of their opponents after the Malaysians had cruised past Nepal 4-0 in the opening game on Wednesday.

In addition, we expect this institution to adopt high standards within its operations. Our conviction is that recent developments responsible for the strike action clearly show significant shortfalls within its machinery and governance structure to effectively achieve its statutory mandate and enhance the fight for the promotion of accountability and transparency in Sierra Leone. On the 18th of September 2008, senior members of staff (Divisional Heads) met and resolved that unless action is taken to regularise the position of Mr Leslie Johnson (former Deputy Auditor General) who should have retired from the Service since April 2007, they would resort to strike action. Due to the failure of the defunct Audit Service Board to achieve this feat, the Divisional Heads together with the general staff body declared a strike action on 8th October 2008.
