SEYDU is a fantastic artist from Sierra Leone, who currently resides in Spain. Seydu was born in Freetown, the capital of Sierra Leone (West Africa). His earliest musical experiences were shaped by that city and by his musical family. His grandfather taught him the secrets of drumming and his mother sang Fullah and Mandingo songs.
ACC Embarks on Massive Public Education Campaign in Sierra Leone

The campaign which commenced at the Methodist Girls High School and the West African Methodist Collegiate School targets pupils of both junior and senior secondary school levels countrywideThe exercise is aimed at inculcating the principles of integrity, accountability and professionalism in the pupils. It is further aimed at introducing the concept of corruption and its impeding effects on progress and development in Sierra Leone. The Anti Corruption Commission has established integrity clubs in 27 secondary schools country wide. The campaign targets mainly schools without integrity clubs in a bid to spread and broaden the messages of the Anti Corruption Commission to every school in the country and to imbibe best practice principles to a new generation of Sierra Leoneans. This socialization process will in the long run hopefully change the culture of corruption amongst educated citizens through restitution and correction of negative and deviant behavioral patterns. Hindolo Trye & Fake Academic Credentials in Sierra Leone

In an attempt to lash back at those who brought the sordid details of his behaviour to the attention of the public, the Minister last week called to question the academic credentials of others in the society. Well, this newspaper has now been reliably informed by sitting parliamentarians from both the ruling party and the opposition that Minister Trye had a very difficult time getting approval by Parliament after he submitted to them academic credentials that he could not substantiate. Hindolo Trye had submitted that he held a University Bachelor’s degree and also a Masters degree but when Hon. Eric Jumu of the Parliamentary Appointments Committee had expressed serious doubts as to the veracity of his claims, Hindolo Trye had promised to bring along his transcripts to Parliament which he is yet to do as of today’s date.
Prayers Offered for 24 Executed Military Personnel in Sierra Leone

Josephine Conteh informed Awareness Times that the Hassan Conteh family would be having a traditional gathering (Awujoh) in memory of the late military officer that would be preceded yesterday October 19th 2008 by a Church Memorial Service in Camberwell, London during which prayers would be offered for the late man’s soul. Here in Sierra Leone, family members of Major Kula Samba, the only female officer who was executed on that date, yesterday October 19th 2008 teamed up with the Publisher of Awareness Times, Dr. Sylvia Blyden and the Paramount Chief of Jawei Chiefdom, P. Musa Ngombuklah Kallon II to launch a Kula Samba Scholarship Fund for Girls at Jawei Chiefdom in Kailahun District where Samba hailed from. The Fund will be used to finance the education of young girls of single mothers from Jawei Chiefdom who would otherwise not have been able to send their girl child to school.

Magburaka Hosts This Year’s World Food Day in Sierra Leone

The occasion which witnessed an exhibition of local farming produces at the Magburaka Town field attracted personalities like the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Food Security, Dr. Sam Sesay, Deputy Minister of Information and Communication, Mohamed D. Koroma, Paramount Chiefs, Officials from the United Nations Office in Sierra Leone, FAO, farmers groups and a host of stakeholders from Bo, Kenema and other parts of the country. The World Food Day was also commemorated alongside the World Poverty Day and the Rural Women Day which makes the occasion unique and colourful. During the exhibition, all types of agricultural products were displayed. President Koroma, dressed in a gray suit, delivered a brilliant speech on food and poverty alleviation.
