These youth leaders representing various youth groups across the country, including Center for the Coordination of Youth Activities (CCYA), Young Leaders-Sierra Leone (YLSL) and YAPAD, were making reservations with regards the intention of the APC Government on youth affairs. YAPAD representative, Bockarie Ensah pointed out that the 52-page manifesto of the ruling government does not prioritize the issue of youths as it is only on the 45th page of the document that mention is being made of youth issues. He further stated that the direction in which the establishment of the National Youth Commission is treading constitutes significant flaws as he puts it: “there is no focus in addressing youth issues as even the review of the youth policy that should precede the youth commission, as mandated by law, is not even talked about. ” He said the youth commission will be of little or no significance without an Act, while describing the process as not in place. “The issues of the youths need to be treated with all seriousness as the development of the country hinges on young people,” he pointed out.
