Sierra Leone Police Confirm Pirate Attack on a Chinese Fishing Vessel

The police saythe pirates forced the crew to hand over their cargo of fish before securityforces confronted them. Four of eight pirates were reportedly killed. Francis Munu Sierra Leone’s AssistantInspector General of Police for Crime Services told VOAsome of the pirates were Guinean nationals. “There was a distress callmade by one of the fishing companies based in Freetown the AFRIC FishingCompany that they had information through their radio network that theirfishing vessel had been attacked by pirates.

Since the inception of the day on 1st December 1988 it commemoration has been not just about raising money but also about increasing awareness fighting prejudice and improving education. ” The auspicious event held at the Family Kingdom in Freetown attracted hundreds of students from over 60 schools all over the country. In his welcome address SPW’s Country Director Edward Francis said the recruitment of young people to serve as agents of change by educating colleagues and other awareness programmes will help reduce Aids in the world. “Through the use of artists and music young people will get inspired and be on the alert to launch a battle against aids as they are the most vulnerable people in the world” he pointed out.

Rokel Bank Launches Mobile Banking Unit in Sierra Leone

The ceremony took place at the Tombo VIP Relaxation Center. At the launch the Managing Director of the bank Henry Akie Macauley thanked the community for their hospitality and called on them to make good use of the facility extended to them. “The aim of this unit is to reduce the constraint of our customers from struggling in long traffic to reach the Freetown Headquarters to transact their businesses” he disclosed. The MD informed that the mobile banking unit will be installed in two Land Rover vehicles one for each village with competent staff to promptly attend to customers’ banking needs in their respective villages.
