Libyan leader extends visit to Sierra Leone

DAKAR – Libyan leader Moamer Gathafi has extended his official visit to Sierra Leone for an indefinite period diplomats said in the West African country Friday. n the third day of his visit Gathafi moved from Freetown to the rural town of Rogbere 100 kilometers (60 miles) north of the capital where he will stay for “an indefinite period” before winding up his stay. “Gathafi will stay in a tent which he brought along while he will discuss bilateral discussions with Sierra Leone leaders and possibly with senior officials of the new military regime in Guinea” a diplomat who did not want to be named said. Junta leader Captain Moussa Dadis Camara seized power in Guinea on December 23 after the death of long-serving president Lansana Conte. The move has drawn widespread condemnation with the African Union announcing Monday it had suspended Guinea’s membership.

The dance was organized to recognize outstanding members for their yearly performance and award them with medals to celebrate and welcome the 2009 year. This has been a tradition for the club to host a fundraising dance on New Year’s Eve. Dangawalli who is also the President of the association in his speech recognized organizations and individuals who helped sponsored the 2008 Sierra Leone soccer tournament held on August 2nd at Arlington Texas. He offered warm complements to people from different organizations especially Tegloma the All People’s Congress Social and Cultural Group as well as Sisters of Sierra Leone who made it to the dance.

Like Sierra Leone and to some extent Liberia in Ghana the opposition won by capitalizing on the ruling party’s inability to curb corruption. While President Kuffour of the NPP is highly regarded in the international community as he opened Ghana to international investors some of his party stalwarts are known to be corrupt to the core. It is reported that many have built luxurious mansions in the central city of Kumasi the citadel of the NPP. This has angered many Ghanaians who still struggle and they decided to elect Professor Mills. As the former vice president of military dictator turned civilian president Jerry Rawlings President-elect Mills greatest challenge is to be his own man and move the country forward.

Chairman Tony Sage said the cashed-up explorer had shortlisted up to seven projects after being “inundated” with offers from companies looking to offload assets amid the global financial crisis. “All we can do is analyse the assets see what we want and make an offer ? and we’ve done the first two parts” Mr Sage said. “I’m going to call a full board meeting (today) and I’ve just got to now convince the board because some of the assets obviously aren’t iron ore related. Cape Lambert has been on the hunt for acquisitions since pocketing $400 million in August from the sale of its namesake iron ore project to China Metallurgical Group.
