Hundreds of families prayed in churches and mosques for peace and stability in the country after an 11-year civil war that killed over a hundred thousand and left thousands more maimed and dispossessed. “We prayed for the people to reconcile… victims as well as perpetrators. We prayed for peace and prosperity and we prayed that never again shall these events re-occur in our country” says Sheik Amadu Kamara an imam at a mosque at Kingtom west of Freetown. n 6 January 1999 RUF rebels along with their renegade allies from the national army invaded Freetown and butchered about 3000 people amputated hundreds and razed down many homes and government infrastructure.
Sierra Leone Police declare 23 varsity students wanted

Police spokesperson Inspector Ibrahim Samura says the students are wanted to help investigators unravel the circumstances surrounding the alleged murder of another student. Two weeks ago 18 year-old and first year FBC student Mohamed Juana was found dead. All of the wanted students belong to the Island Club one of dozens of social clubs and cults on student campuses in Sierra Leone. “The deceased died shortly after the club’s initiation ceremony which involved the beating of initiates stuffing them with drugs and alcohol and putting them through hazardous drilling” Inspector Samura told APA.

The China Maritime Search and Rescue Center said the pirates gave chase in the eastern region of the gulf about 3:50 p. with speeds reaching 19 nautical miles per hour Xinhua reported. Nearby warships dispatched to protect the ship found it secure about 40 minutes later the state-run Chinese news agency reported.

Donating the scholarships LENEC Coordinator Mr. Momodu Barrie informed that the organization composed mainly of young Sierra Leoneans based in that country aims at utilizing its membership’s little resources to promote education of less fortunate children especially those born of war affected parents like the amputated. He said the urge to alleviate those children’s plights came about after their first encounter with their family heads when sometime back they supplied them with used clothing and food items. “It was after the exercise that the parents called on us to prioritize education of their children since they could not afford to pay their school fees” he said.
