Can S Leone flush away corruption?
BBC News UK
It all began in late 2007 when I travelled to Freetown the capital of Sierra Leone for the inauguration of the then-recently elected president Ernest Bai Koroma. I had obtained a confidential report commissioned by the incoming government into official corruption. President Koroma had come to power on a strong anti-corruption ticket and the report was one of his first initiatives. I reported on the revelations in the (until-then) confidential study and quizzed President Koroma about his promises. During that same trip in late 2007 I went to the top floor of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs building to interview the newly-appointed Foreign Minister Zainab Bangura.

Sierra Leone: From Paris to Freetown

So here I was preparing myself to enter the black continent. After receiving the confirmation for my internship I wanted to talk to everybody about my trip and that’s what I did! But they didn’t really react as I was expecting them to. Most of them were just full of scare when I was pronouncing the name: Sierra Leone. The images of the civil war were still engraved in their memory and most of them didn’t even know that it has ended. I can’t really blame people about this since the news are just covering stories about African countries when there is conflict war famine or when the French president is visiting. Apart from people’s thoughts I had to start preparing myself and I have been drowned into administrative processes for weeks: visa vaccination insurance medicine.

Caterpillars Invade Northern Liberia
Voice of America
“Hammond says some 50 villages in northern Liberia are confirmed to have been affected. There are reports that the caterpillars suspected to be African armyworms are currently advancing across the border with Guinea. The FA fear that the caterpillars could also invade Sierra Leone and Ivory Coast. It is assessing the situation with a task force of experts from Ghana and Sierra Leone. “We are getting Sierra Leone involved in this evaluation and survey which we will extend into Sierra Leone and eventually get into Guinea because if we don’t do that we run the risk of having a regional catastrophe” said Hammond. Hammond said an action plan will be drawn up as quickly as possible with medium and long-term measures. Specimens of the caterpillars have been flown to Accra to be identified so that the most effective type of pesticide can be determined.

In a question and answer interview statement the accused said all the allegations against him were false as he was not a party to the unlawful landing of the plane. He said he received a call from an anonymous caller for landing rights but did not crosscheck who the caller was. The accused further stated that he received that request at 7pm but was not familiar with the caller but the voice seems to be a Sierra Leonean. The caller said: “Kindly requesting a clearance for an aircraft to land details type of aircraft is Antonov point of origin (Dakar). “I made clearance for an Antonov 12 aircraft” the accused said. He however noted that the aircraft that arrived was not the plane he gave clearance for landing rights. The accused also said the clearance for the 12th July was for an emergency landing of an aircraft for fuelling purposes.

Sierra Leone: Kojowlo Humbles Pejewa

GA_googleFillSlot( “AllAfrica_Story_Inset” );Both teams ended up in a 1-1 draw during the first leg encounter at the same venue but Kojowlo this time round were lucky as striker Alpha Timothy accounted for the only goal of the day. Both teams played well in the match as several goal attempts were made by either side but their defense proved to be stiff. However the attacking machine of Kojowlo was able to break the defense of Pejewo five minutes towards the end of time. Despite several attempts made by Pejewo to level the score line the Kojowlo defenders were comfortable in frustrating their opponent attacked.
