Why Sierra Leone is falling and what we can do about it

It is one of the smallest (27925 square miles) countries in West Africa with abundant deposits of natural resources such as diamonds gold rutile iron ore bauxite etc. Marine resources vast agricultural fields beautiful landscape and beaches natural harbour dense forests flora and fauna beautiful birds and human resources. With a population of less than five million people the country is well placed for its citizens to enjoy an enviable lifestyle in the Sub-region and to be ranked along with Singapore and Malaysia. Unfortunately this is not the case as they lack basic necessities such as adequate shelter food access to affordable or free education good roads and health care electricity and clean drinking water.

China’s foreign ministry issued a strongly-worded protest to Moscow demanding a full investigation. But the images of Salma Hayek breast-feeding a starving baby in Sierra Leone struck a personal and political chord with me. What’s surprising though is this ultimate natural act remains problematic for us. The ease with which we accept images of superstar actresses like Hayek and Angelina Jolie breast-feeding but not those of the average Jane shows our confusion regarding the female breast and female sexuality.
