SIERRA LENE REBEL LEADERS CNVICTED F WAR CRIMES — A special tribunal in Freetown found three top rebel leaders guilty of crimes against humanity Feb. 25 for their commanding roles in a brutal 11-year civil war that left a half a million people murdered or mutilated. “Some of the most heinous and brutal acts in the history of human warfare were committed here. It was a campaign of terror. And this was not a war fought as we think of it but one exclusively targeted at civilians.

The Draft Chieftaincy Act presents a historic opportunity for reform. Comprehensive review and reform of chiefdom governance is urgently needed to consolidate the gains of post-war governance reform and ensure continuing peace and stability. The case for reform is not a case against tradition. It is rather a case for the continued relevance of chieftaincy in a country that yearns for better governance fairer justice systems socio-economic development and greater accountability.

They did very bad things to their country. ‘They should be kept in prison till the end of their life.
