Leone political parties sign deal to end violence2 days agoFREETWN (AFP) — Sierra Leone’s rival political parties — which were involved in bloody clashes last month — on Thursday signed an agreement brokered by the international community to end the violence. In March violence flared up between supporters of President Ernest Koroma’s All People’s Congress (APC) and the main opposition Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP). Tensions came to a head with an attack on the SLPP party headquarters on March 16 which left some 20 people wounded. Six women also reported they had been raped during the clashes. The agreement dubbed a peace deal by diplomats urged “an end to political fracas among all political parties in the country” adding that “nobody is above the law. “”The police will be impartial and undertake their job correctly against anyone regardless of political affiliation” it added.
