“The evidence presented to date viewed in an objective manner is not sufficient for or capable of supporting a conviction” Taylor’s lawyer Morris Anyah told the court during a special session to hear the defence motion. “Terrible things happenened in Sierra Leone. The citizens in Sierra Leone faced atrocities in unimaginable proportions. We never denied that” Anyah added referring to witness testimony about murder mutilation and rape. However the defence had to “focus primarily on the linkage evidence on the absence thereof” he argued. “There is no evidence of many of the individual elements of the modes of liability that have been presented.

Ex-President Kabbah was skillfully brought in and became an unpaid Public Relations officer. He made several appearances in most parts of the country selling Celtel to the people. There were times when ex-president Kabbah was called upon to launch the products in some of the most remote part of Sierra Leone Kailahun Pujehun you name them while Dr. Julius Spencer and his team is hardly seen in Freetown always in the provincial towns and suburbs. Justifications of increases in tariffs were accepted hook line and sinker especially when the issue of Sierra Leoneans was mentioned. Those days have gone when electricity better conditions of service were used as the weapon to squeeze the people. Though there is no constant electricity flow however Haja Afsatu Kabbah must be commended for the intermittent supply of power that is giving some form of income to cold water seller wielders panel beaters and even the mobile phone companies.

So the question of giving out personal information is to demonstrate to your principal (public) that there is nothing to hide and nothing to fear. Also in Sierra Leone the ratio of senior to junior public servant is 1: 3. So if the declarations were limited to only Politicians and senior public officers then greater proportion would be left out. People who propose this idea mostly consider only employment income which to them is not sufficient to acquire property such as house land and other fixed assets or that these people do not have access to or control state funds. In fact in many organization it is the junior staff that have access to sensitive information that can be sold for money; are in charge of revenue collection that can be tampered with; procurement authority that can be abused.

The heads met to find what they referred to as solutions to the political impasse between supporters of the two parties. Ironically they know what the problems are and how to solve it but each of the party has over the years been maintaining postures that are not in the interest of the ordinary citizens who are suffering the brunt of their activities anytime unfavourable and politically unpalatable situation develops between the two parties. n Saturday 4th April 2009 the President of Sierra Leone Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma reportedly paid a visit to the SLPP Headquarter at Wallace Johnson Street whether he went there to assess the damage done to the buildings of the SLPP and the City Council which was equally hit or he went there as President of the country to see what helping hand he could give to help the party pick up its bits and pieces and kick-start political activities. Prior to the visit of the President a communiqu?ad been signed between the two factions. The communiqu?n its entirety focused on the state and how peace and tranquility can be achieved and maintained. It is hoped that they would respect the document their signatures and time spent in the interest of the state and its people and not their political desires.

Bassie Turay has no regards for administrative authority. This trait of his character became evident recently when he was officially instructed by the Minister of Health and Sanitation Mr. Koroma to report an alleged fraud and larceny to the Head of the Criminal Investigation (CID) Mr. Musa Lappia for police to spring into action regarding the Le17 Million which was reportedly missing at the Pharmacy Board ffice.

Leone political parties sign deal to end violence3 days agoFREETWN (AFP) — Sierra Leone’s rival political parties — which were involved in bloody clashes last month — on Thursday signed an agreement brokered by the international community to end the violence. In March violence flared up between supporters of President Ernest Koroma’s All People’s Congress (APC) and the main opposition Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP). Tensions came to a head with an attack on the SLPP party headquarters on March 16 which left some 20 people wounded. Six women also reported they had been raped during the clashes. The agreement dubbed a peace deal by diplomats urged “an end to political fracas among all political parties in the country” adding that “nobody is above the law. “”The police will be impartial and undertake their job correctly against anyone regardless of political affiliation” it added.
