Africell to expand network backbone in Sierra Leone Gambia

The deployment of 90 links of Eclipse high-capacity radios which are optimised for networks with flexible high-bandwidth capabilities and native gigabit Ethernet interfaces began in December as part of a contract valued at USD1. The links will extend network reach into remote areas across the two countries as well as increase network reliability. The vendor will also supply its ProVision Element Management System which was developed for managing microwave radio networks and delivers advanced features for monitoring and controlling time-division multiplexing and Ethernet traffic.

The Marampa project has reduced barriers to entry compared to a greenfields project through its connection by an 84-km railway to an existing deep-water port stockpiling and ship loading facility located at Pepel to the southwest Cape Lambert stated.
