Alpha Kanu went on explaining that the short to medium term economic development potential from the mineral sector is greater than any other sector in Sierra Leone. To realize this potential and attract the investment necessary to provide economic benefit to the government and the people of this country he went on there are a number of institutional constrains within the Ministry of Mineral Resources and Political Affairs and associated institutions that need to be addressed as per recent reviews of the mineral sector by the EU UNDP World Bank IMF and DFID-funded projects. He further stated that a central recommendation for Sierra Leone is the rapid need to increase the capacity of the government by recruiting a range of professional and qualified individuals. “The main rational behind reform is that the better organized and capacitated the institutions the more likely government will be able to facilitate greater investments resulting in economic growth and increased revenues for government. As a matter of fact reform should be considered as an investment in an area that will generate financial returns” the Minister opined. © Copyright by Awareness Times Newspaper in Freetown Sierra Leone.

According to one of the panelists Sheik Fomba Philip Neville in the said article termed the Mambolo incident in which a church was burnt down as being “a Muslim orchestrated rebel war”. This according to him is nothing but an incitement of religious war in our country. “There has been no time in the history of Sierra Leone when a writer or speaker associates any conflict or disorder to have been orchestrated by one particular religion. So why then should this arrogant man associate this to a very special and unique religion like Islam if only he is not aiming at perpetrating a religious war in our land?” asked Sheik Fomba angrily adding “this has been the usual habit of Neville to castigate well respected people in society using his medium but this for sure is his Waterloo” Meaning this is his stopping point. Another panelist Sheik Alie Kallay who happens to be a columnist at the Standard Times Newspaper’s religious column informed audience that after Neville’s first publication of this offensive article he confronted and cautioned him and advised him to consult senior Muslim authorities like him before publishing such articles again but Neville proved arrogant to him and went ahead to do the second publication. He however cautioned Muslims not to take the law into their hands but wait for the appropriate authorities to handle the matter legally. Angry callers belonging to the two religions (Muslim and Christian) equally expressed angry views over the said publications.
