His Excellency Andrew Gbebay Bangali who also doubles as Sierra Leone’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa signed the two important instruments at the AU headquarters in Addis Ababa Ethiopia. When the treaties would have been ratified by government the rights and obligations of the agreements have to be legalized within the country. The purpose of ratification was to domesticate the legislations in accordance with the treaties.

The workshop held at the Mamba Point Hotel Wilberforce showcased UNHCR’s activities in Sierra Leone. UNHCR’s Senior Protection fficer Veronica Modey-Ebi said the seminar was organized to create awareness on international protection of refugees and the roles of various stakeholders. Modey-Ebi said her organization’s mandate is to ensure international protection for refugees and to work with the government to search for durable solutions to refugee problem.
