Alieu Sesay to further strangle businessmen and women and increase the woes on the consumers has been put on hold by the Executive arm of government after a careful study of both the political and economic implications of the proposed Goods and Service Tax (GST) to be introduced on 1st September 2009. It would be recalled that some weeks back a hurriedly convened conference with poor publicity was held at the Bank of Sierra Leone Complex to discuss the new economic concept which was opposed by the business community as untimely to be introduced to the country. Despite the concerns raised by the business community tax and economist analysts the focus of the National Revenue Authority was to forge ahead with it and damn the consequences. Between the dates of the conference at the Bank of Sierra Leone Complex to now when the GST was muted out several representations from various sections of the communities have been made to President Ernest Bai Koroma highlighting the negative implications it would have on our poor economy.

Alex Jinnah Bockarie said the initiative will help the party’s bid to capture State House and form the next government of Sierra Leone. GA_googleFillSlot( “AllAfrica_Story_InsetA” );He cited the regular visits by former PMDC eastern region chairman Chief Ahmed Benson Suwu to the party’s Dama Road office in Kenema as an indication that he was not only a strong party member but also determined to ensure the PMDC score remarkable success in the next general elections. According to Bockarie unity now prevails among members of the party as they have come to the realization that all of them are fighting for the same goal. “Before I was elected regional chairman east there were rumours that most of the members had left or are planning to leave the party. That motivated me to gun for the chairmanship position and after my victory I took it as a challenge to bring the party together.
